Kami Shepherd was homeless a year ago and had just begun recovery from a meth addiction.

She agreed to be an active participant in Economic Security Corporation's case management program. She has since obtained a two bedroom home using a housing choice voucher via our housing program. Kami's fifteen year old daughter stated that this is the first time she has ever had a bedroom of her own.

Kami also participates in the Goal Program through Jasper County Housing Authority which is operated by Economic Security Corporation.

With all the resources Economic Security offered, another opportunity arose via a local resource. Avenues of Mental Health approached Economic Security to find out if there was anyone in the Economic Security's case management program that would be interested in working for them as their administrative assistant. Because of her determination and goal of getting a degree in counseling for drug and alcohol addiction, Kami was considered. Through the Community Services Block Grant funding that Economic Security administers, Economic Security was able to quickly purchase clothing suitable for employment. Kami interviewed shortly after the opportunity arose. Kami is now an employee of Avenues of Mental Health. This is life changing for Kami, She is on her way to reaching every goal and dream.
